Real Madrid will face CD Leganes at Municipal de Butarque Stadium in La Liga clash on April 15. Madrid is currently third-placed with 60 points and have only lost nine times this season. Leganes on the other hand, are in the 11th position and have collected 40 points in their last 31 matches.
Madrid who have had quite a tough season will be looking to grab all three points in this game in order to prove their ‘critics’ wrong. A win for Los Vikingos will steer them to the second position, ahead of Atletico Madrid. A loss will be a huge setback as they strive to redeem their past ‘glory’.
Similarly, a win for Mauricio Pellegrino’s side will take them closer to the eighth placed Atletico Bilbao. A loss on the other hand, will dim their top ten dream as the season nears an end.
Real Madrid vs Leganes
Zinedine Zidane’s side have won four of their last five matches despite a number of struggles within the squad. They will be seeking to continue their winning streak.
Real Madrid beat Eibar 2-1 during their encounter on Saturday after a brace from Karim Benzema. Pellegrino’s side on the other hand, have won only twice in the past five matches.Leganes’ last game against Alaves ended in a 1-1 draw.
Bookies in favor of Madrid
Bookies are in agreement that Los Vikingos will be difficult to beat for Leganes who will need to show their A-game in order to stop them.
According to the odds, Real Madrid have a 1.57 chance to win, while their rivals have a 5.00 chance to emerge winners. The possibility of a draw stands at 4.10.
Despite of what the bookies predict, Pellegrino’s side could take advantage of Madrid’s ‘pride’ and pull off an upset, surprising the fans of both sides. However, the big odd difference means that the Saturday’s game could turn out to be a David and Goliath clash.
Madrid’s squad is a threat to Leganes
Despite a dismal performance this season, Zidane’s side still boasts of quality players with insane skills as compared to other teams. It will be a nightmare for the Leganes’ squad and bad news to the ears of their fans.
Players such as the unstoppable Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Vinicius Junior are expected to reign terror on Pellegrino’s side on the D-day. It will be almost impossible for Leganes to outplay Zidane’s side.
Leganes to make use of the home advantage
Although it may appear that the home advantage aspect won’t save Leganes from Madrid’s wrath, Leganes’ fans could motivate their players to pull a shock victory.
Based on the above statistics and past records, I would still bet on a win or draw for Real Madrid as Los Vikingos appear stronger in almost all aspects.
Will Madrid bow to pressure of Leganes fans or will they move forward and crash their spirit? We will know the answer after the referee’s final whistle.
