NHL Buzz: Matthews out for Maple Leafs against Oilers

Toronto Maple Leafs

Auston Matthews will not play against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, CBC, SN, CITY, TVAS, NHLN), coach Sheldon Keefe said.

Matthews did not practice Friday after he aggravated an injury to his right wrist during a 2-1 overtime win against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. The center is day to day.

Center Joe Thornton (undisclosed) and defenseman Jake Muzzin (upper body) will play after each missed the past two games.

Goalie Jack Campbell will start for the first time since sustaining a leg injury during a 3-2 win against the Flames on Jan. 24.— Mike Zeisberger

 

Buffalo Sabres

Jack Eichel missed his second straight game because of a lower-body injury when the Sabres hosted the Philadelphia Flyers.

The center, who was scratched from a 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey on Thursday, did not practice Friday and is day to day.

Eichel is second on the Sabres with 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) in 16 games this season.

Linus Ullmark will be out at least one month because of a lower-body injury.

The goalie left after the first period Thursday after he appeared to get injured making a save on Devils forward Nico Hischier 5:57 into the period.

Ullmark is 5-4-2 with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage in 12 games this season.

 

Washington Capitals

Evgeny Kuznetsov was not in the lineup against the New Jersey Devils because of an upper-body injury.

The forward did not take part in warmups Saturday and is listed as day to day.

Kuznetsov has scored six points (two goals, four assists) in 11 games this season.

The Capitals play the second game of a back-to-back set against the Devils on Sunday.
