MATCHUP PREVIEW

The Penguins continue along their four-game road trip as they head to New York to take on the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. Pittsburgh has picked up points in nine of its last 10 games against New York (6-1-3), and is 9-3-3 over its last 15 games versus the Islanders. The Penguins have points in five of their last six road games against the Islanders (3-1-2). Ten of Pittsburgh’s 11 games in the month of February are against either the Washington Capitals or New York Islanders. The lone game not against either team, Feb. 1, was played against the New York Rangers.

QUICK HITS

Tonight begins the Penguins’ first set of back-to-back games this season. Pittsburgh is scheduled to have nine sets of back-to-back games in 2020-21.

Sidney Crosby (1G-4A), Evgeni Malkin (2G-3A) and Bryan Rust (2G-3A) are tied with Philadelphia’s James van Riemsdyk (5A) for most points in the NHL against the New York Islanders this season.

The Penguins enter tonight’s game with three straight wins against the Islanders. A win tomorrow would give them their first four-game winning streak against New York since Mar. 15, 2016-Nov. 18, 2016 (4-0-0).

Since Feb. 14, goaltender Tristan Jarry is tied for the NHL lead in wins (4) and has the seventh-best save percentage (.928) among all goaltenders with at least three starts during that time frame.

Kasperi Kapanen is one point shy of becoming the 23rd member of his 2014 draft class to record 100 points. Kapanen was selected by Pittsburgh 22nd overall in the 2014 NHL Draft.

TURBO TIME

Brandon Tanev sparked a third-period rally on Thursday night in Washington, as he recorded his fifth goal of the season, and first shorthanded. Since joining Pittsburgh last season, Tanev is the only Penguin to record multiple shorthanded goals.

Tanev has had success throughout his career against the Islanders, recording seven points (3G-4A) in 11 games.
