Trading up for a QB looking more promising for the Steelers

When it comes to NFL quarterbacks, there it is all about fit. Trying to rank quarterback prospects for the NFL draft in a general sense is one thing but typically the rankings you see from NFL draft pundits can vary greatly but individual big boards from NFL teams are highly specialized.

One thing we can say for sure, it really feels like once the first round starts, you are going to see four quarterbacks come off the board very quickly. Teams have been making moves to get into the top of the first round and it is safe to assume it is to draft one of the top signal-callers.

However, if these draft experts are to be believed the fifth quarterback in the draft could slide to the middle of the first round. Who is that fifth quarterback? Depends on who you ask. At one point it was firmly Alabama’s Mac Jones. Now he seems to be a draft darling and will be the third quarterback taken.

This leaves Ohio State’s Justin Fields and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance. Does it matter which guy slips when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers? I would say no. Both players have the skill sets to thrive in a Matt Canada offense and would bring the Steelers offense into the present and be built for the future.

How far up would the Steelers need to trade? Given the market, going up to pick No. 10 should get it done and there is precedent for this sort of move by Pittsburgh when they identify a player they really think they need.

But I want to pass the question off to you. If Fields or Lance slide out of the top five, do you want the Steelers to trade up and draft them? Let us know in the comments.
