After opening the season with the most bizarre race name in years, NASCAR may very well have topped it just a few weeks later.
It was always going to be hard to top the Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300 from four weekends ago, but it appears as though another upcoming NASCAR race name may have done just that.
After the 2021 Xfinity Series season opened up at Daytona International Speedway with a race name arguably more bizarre than the craziest ones of years past, another one is on the way that may even top all of those.
This historic list includes but is not limited to the Buckle Up in Your Truck 225, the Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola, the Crown Royal Presents the John Wayne Walding 400 at The Brickyard, the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen, the Crown Royal Presents the [Your Hero’s Name Here] 400 at the Brickyard powered by BigMachineRecords.com and the Spongebob Squarepants 400.
You get the idea.
Now the upcoming Xfinity Series race at Phoenix Raceway, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow evening, is called the Call 811 Before You Dig 200, and we can’t wait to see the trophy.
Of course, this race name isn’t littered with periods like the Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300, but it’s arguably just as crazy of a name for a NASCAR race. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Brandon Jones is the reigning winner of this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 1.022-mile (1.645-kilometer) Phoenix Raceway oval in Avondale, Arizona, back when it was called the LS Tractor 200 last March in what was the final Xfinity Series race before the unexpected 10-week hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Call 811 Before You Dig 200 is set to be broadcast live from Phoenix Raceway on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET tomorrow evening.
