2022 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Results: Late Favourite King of Sparta Salutes

History repeated itself at the Gold Coast on Saturday as trainer’s Peter and Paul Snowden took out the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas for the second year in a row.

A year on from Aim’s upset victory, it was King of Sparta greeting the judge first thanks to a well-timed ride from Nash Rawiller.

The market indicated that the son of I Am Invincible was the one punter’s wanted to be with, the three-year-old firming from $6.00 into the $4.00 favourite right before the jump.

It was an easy watch for those that got on late as Rawiller pushed the button 200m out from home to see off a late challenge from the fast-finishing Me Me Lagarde over the concluding stages.

King Of Sparta broke through to win his maiden last winter with a win at Kensington and then backed that performance up with a three-length victory two starts later at Kembla Grange.

He wrapped up his prep third to Paulele in the Group 2 Roman Consul at Randwick and appeared in great order first-up when third in the Gosford Guineas last month.

The way he finished off in his latest assignment suggested he was wanting further, and the wide gate probably aided him to get back and run on under Rawiller.

Me Me Lagarde made up enormous ground with an eye-catching run out wide for second, while Ciaron Maher and David Eustace’s promising young filly helped fill the frame in third.
