An explanation for Liverpool starlet Curtis Jones’ absence from the England U21 squad to face Slovenia this evening has been forthcoming online.

Gallagher amongst the goals

Lee Carsley’s men are of course currently locked in action.

Ahead of their senior equivalents facing off with Andorra on Saturday evening, the Young Lions tonight made the trip to Celje, for an U21 European Championship qualifier.

England headed into proceedings eyeing a much-needed three-point haul, having fallen to a concerning pair of defeats across the nation’s first three Group D fixtures.

And, as things stand at Arena Petrol, all three points is precisely what the visitors are headed towards.

Carsley and co. currently lead Slovenia by two goals to nil, owing to first-half strikes from in-form Crystal Palace loanee Conor Gallagher, and Manchester City talent Cole Palmer.

Jones update

As outlined above, though, whilst the likes of goalscorer Palmer and Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe continue to impress on Thursday evening, another of England’s crop of up-and-coming young talent is nowhere to be seen.

The player in question? Curtis Jones.

Liverpool midfielder Jones has enjoyed an impressive couple of weeks as part of Jurgen Klopp’s ranks at Anfield, and was expected to play a central role versus Slovenia as a result.

As since confirmed across social media, though, the 20-year-old has picked up a fitness problem, news which will no doubt be met with derision back on the red half of Merseyside.
