Where Arsenal would have finished in the league without VAR

Some hypothetical research from the Sun has got fans talking after a Premier League table was published had VAR not been in-use this season, and it certainly makes for better reading for Gunners fans.

Had VAR not been in operation in the Premier League, Arsenal would have finished fourth and achieved a coveted Champions League spot.

In fact, the study finds that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal faced the adverse decision making of VAR the most.

Nine decisions went against Arsenal and three for – a total of 12 calls with six against, in-contrast the biggest beneficiaries were Burnley, with six for and one against.

Arsenal would have earned an additional four points and have additionally toppled north London rivals Tottenham for the first time in five seasons.

VAR is arguably in-need of some rule changes this summer ahead of next season, but no one is expecting the officials at Stockley Park to be going anywhere soon.
