Road Trippin’ - Saturday’s match kicks off four consecutive road matches for the Boys in Gold. The team enters this road trip with some confidence, having won its first road match of the season on August 28 at Atlanta United FC.Â
Defender Jack Maher said that win was important for the team’s outlook moving forward.Â
“[Head Coach] Gary [Smith] talks all the time about finding ways to get points, whether it’s one or three, whenever we go to these away games,” Maher said. “It’s very valuable and very difficult to do. A lot of the guys in the locker room say how valuable and how difficult going to a hostile environment is, and for us to get three points and a win is massive and will go a long way for us at the end of the season.”
Montréal Moments - Nashville SC has played CF Montréal to a pair of draws this season: 2-2 on April 24 and 1-1 on June 26. This will be the first meeting between the two sides to take place in Canada after the team was able to return home to Stade Saputo in July.Â
Head Coach Gary Smith says he knows his team is in for a challenge in Montréal.Â
“This weekend, they have our respect for sure,” Smith said. “We will go there knowing that we’re in for a very tough game. It’s not just about the football that they’re playing or the style of play that they have. I think they’ve proven they are a tough nut to crack, they’ve got a good physical presence throughout the group and they’re very capable from dead balls. We need to be on the money to get a result and earn some points there, otherwise we’re going to fall foul with a difficult away result. We will be ready, but it will be a tough game.”
Playoff Push - Nashville SC sits tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with 38 points. CF Montréal is just seven points behind at 31 points, sitting four points above the playoff line.Â
Smith says he knows this kind of match on Saturday could have implications in the playoff race moving forward, especially against a team like Montréal.Â
“What I want to be mindful of going into this game in Montreal is that there are a lot of implications attached to this,” Smith said. “Montréal are in a terrific spot, and they’ve shown good quality throughout this year. I read a couple of articles this week rightly suggesting that you know they are a team that have been overlooked, maybe because of the circumstances in the early part of the year and in preseason. But this is a well-organized, well-drilled and competitive side. I certainly won’t be taking any chances with the group and the best team will go out there to get the job done.”
