Weekly Update: Chicago Fire FC Continue Training During International FIFA Break

CHICAGO – Chicago Fire FC heads into the second week of the FIFA international match window with three Chicago Fire FC players representing their national teams: Miguel Navarro, Xherdan Shaqiri and Sergio Oregel Jr.


Defender Miguel Navarro and the Venezuela Men’s National Team defeated Malta 1-0 on Wednesday, June 1 at Ta’Qali National Stadium in Ta’Quali, Malta. La Vinotinto will then travel to Murcia, Spain for an international friendly against Saudi Arabia on Thursday, June 9 at 12:00 p.m. CT at the Estadio Nueva Condomina.

Shaqiri has been called up to represent Switzerland for four UEFA Nations League Group A2 matches, beginning with a match against the Czech Republic, falling 2-1 on Thursday, June 2, at SINOBO Stadium in Prague, Czech Republic. Switzerland then traveled to face Portugal, falling 4-0 on Sunday, June 5 at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon. The team will host Spain at 1:45 p.m. CT on Thursday, June 9 at the Stade de Genève in Geneva. The Swiss will close out the Nations League window at home, once again facing Portugal at 1:45 p.m. CT on Sunday, June 12.

Homegrown midfielder Sergio Oregel Jr. joins the U.S. U-19 Men’s Youth National Team for the second time this year under head coach Marko Mitrović. The U.S. traveled to Marbella, Spain, where the U.S. U-19 MYNT will play two international friendly matches. The U.S. will first face England on Monday, June 6, before taking on Norway on Thursday, June 9. Both matches will kick off at 11:00 a.m. CT at the Marbella Football Center’s Dama de Noche pitches.

Chicago Fire FC II forward Omari Glasgow has also joined the Guyana National Team for Concacaf Nations League matches in June.

The Fire will return to the lakefront to host D.C. United on Saturday, June 18. The match against D.C. United will kick off at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast nationally on UniMás, TUDN and Twitter (with English-language audio). It will also be transmitted locally in Spanish on Univision Radio.
