Van Bronckhorst: Rangers need to take Dortmund levels into Premiership

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is aiming for Rangers to take the performances that knocked Borussia Dortmund out of the Europa League into domestic competition to deliver silverware this season.

The Rangers boss saw his side follow their 4-2 win in Germany with a 2-2 draw at Ibrox against the Bundesliga stars to reach the last 16 of the European competition, but in between those matches the team dropped two valuable points in the title race with a draw at Dundee United.

Van Bronckhorst says they can’t allow any further slips in the title race but can use the boost from their European highs to deliver domestic results.

“You want to play this way in every game you play,” the manager said.

“We go back to the domestic league and we can’t afford more dropped points, we have to have the same level of play.

“Yesterday we created good chances to score and we scored twice and that’s our aim also for Sunday.

“Our aim is to create as many chances as possible but in the end we have to have the three points.

“Of course it’s a switch of competition but we are here to win games and to win silverware so it doesn’t matter in which competition play, you have to be there from the first minute.

“I think the transition will be easy.”

Rangers learned on Friday that they’ll face Serbian champions Crvena Zvezda in the last 16 of the Europa League and Van Bronckhorst welcomed the draw and said his team will be well prepared to try and reach the quarter finals.

“Well, to overcome Dortmund will give us confidence because we defeated one of the best and went through,” he said.

“We knew which teams we could draw and we’ve ended up with Red Star. It’s an opponent who look very good from the games they played. They also were first in their group in the Europa League so we know they are a strong team.

“We will prepare the team, as always, and give them as much information and do everything to make sure we progress to the next round.

“It’s the moments you work hard for and you want to feel these moments in Europe as a player and as a coach. And for the fans as well, you could see that the atmosphere at Ibrox was fantastic.

“It sure makes the difference for my players to compete in this atmosphere and I am sure that the next home game against Red Star it will be the same atmosphere.”
