MONTEVIDEO, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has been left out of Uruguay’s squad for 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia due to injury, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) said on Friday.
The AUF did not provide details of Cavani’s condition but local media reported that he suffered a soft tissue injury after scoring in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last Saturday.
Celeste manager Oscar Tabarez was also forced to leave out Sebastian Caceres, Matias Vina, Federico Valverde, Nicolas De La Cruz, Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Maximiliano Gomez because of injuries.
Uruguay will meet Argentina in Montevideo on Friday and Bolivia in La Paz four days later.
Tabarez’s men are currently fifth in the 10-team South American group with four wins, four draws and four losses.
