Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant managerial position at Newcastle United.

United are in the market for a permanent manager following the departure of Steve Bruce last week and while a chunk of names having been thrown around, Chronicle Live reports that Emery is now the bookies’ favorite to take the job.

Emery is currently in charge of Spanish outfit Villarreal who have struggled this season as they are 13th after winning two of 11 games, which could lead to Emery losing his job in Spain.

Newcastle’s new owners, a Saudi Arabia-backed consortium, want a new coach in charge of the team before they can provide the money for the right transfers in January as they seek to escape the drop.

Apart from Emery, the position has attracted Belgium national team head coach Roberto Martinez, Lucien Favre, Paulo Fonseca, and Eddie Howe.
