Two pedestrians rushed to hospital after being mowed down by car in Motherwell

Two people are in hospital after being mowed down by a car in North Lanarkshire.

The man and woman, both aged 54, were struck by the motor on Muirhouse Road in Motherwell on Friday.

Police were called to the scene at around 11.10am.

Photos of the incident show three cop cars and two ambulances that scrambled to the area.

The injured pedestrians were taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment.

The nature of their injuries and current medical condition is not known at this time.

Police confirmed the incident on Friday night as their investigation got underway.

Muirhouse Road remains closed to other motorists.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Motherwell attended Muirhouse Road around 11.10am on Friday, July 9, following reports of two pedestrians having been struck by a car.

“Emergency services attended and a 54-year-old man and woman were taken to Wishaw General Hospital.

“The road remains closed and enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing.”
