EURO TRIP

Bevis Mugabi insists Motherwell can gatecrash the fight for a European place.

The Uganda international was a key man as his side’s Easter Road point made it just one defeat in five games.

Mugabi said: “In the past couple of weeks we’ve shown we’re hard to play against and a tough opponent.

“It’s only going to get better from here on until the end of the season because I feel we have a lot more to offer as a team.

“There’s more for us to unlock within ourselves.

“Working with the gaffer on the training pitch, I think it’s only going to get better.

“We should have three points but getting a draw away to Hibs is still definitely a positive result for us.

“At half-time, the gaffer told us to just keep on going and believing in ourselves.

“We had plenty of chances and he was sure we would get a couple more in the second half to bring it back and we did.”

There was no thought of Well playing to safeguard a late point — when Kevin van Veen was hooked late in the game, striker Connor Shields replaced him.

Mugabi added: “I felt in this game we could have nicked it with the way we played and the chances we created.

“Putting on Connor, you know he’s going to run defenders ragged.

“I would like to think we can challenge for a European place with the way we’re playing,

“I don’t see why we should be limiting ourselves in what we can do.  Rather than looking behind, we should look in front to see what we can do to fulfil our potential.”
