Tottenham Hotspur: Gold reveals Spurs’ regret with Foyth

Tottenham Hotspur correspondent for Football.London, Alasdair Gold, has been speaking on a Facebook live video about all things related to the north London club.

The journalist was discussing potential outgoings from the Lilywhites this summer ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Would Foyth start at right-back for Spurs?

Yes

No

No

One name which Gold believed to be a player which is likely not to be at Spurs come to the end of the summer is defender Juan Foyth.

The Argentine has spent the 2020/21 season out on loan with La Liga side Villarreal where he has racked up 16 league appearances in what has been an injury-riddled campaign (via Transfermarkt).

Earlier this week, the 23-year-old got his hands on the Europa League trophy after their victory over Manchester United in the final which he played 88 minutes.

It is believed the Spanish side have a clause in his contract to which they can sign the defender permanently for a fee in the region of £13m.

On the Argentine’s future, Gold had the following to say (29:23):

“He’s a warrior. He is a proper warrior. I think he showed that last night [vs Manchester United] like I say [Marcus] Rashford barely had a sniff in the game.

“And I kind of feel that he’s going to be a little bit like Kyle Walker-Peters, he’s going to be one of those where Spurs will regret either not playing him or not loaning him about a little bit earlier to give him a real run in a Premier League team.”

“I think they’re going to lose out on Foyth. And £13m for Foyth now actually looks ridiculously low. I’d say he’s up there in the £20ms right now – potentially if he continues to develop at Villareal he could end up going to a huge club.”

TIF Thoughts on Foyth’s future…

Spurs have had their issues this season at the right-back position. Serge Aurier has made just 19 appearances in the league and Matt Doherty has struggled massively since signing last summer.

Juan Foyth impressed in the final for Villarreal on Wednesday night and showed a ‘warrior’ mentality after battling on from what seemed a nasty head injury in the opening 10 minutes.

However, Gold seems to think Spurs are set to lose Foyth this summer and we think he could have returned to Spurs and potentially made a claim for the right-back spot with more experience to his name.
