Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold assesses Marcelo Bielsa as potential Spurs manager

[ad_1]

This comes after Gold made an appearance on a recent Facebook Live video from Football.London where he spoke about a range of subjects concerning the club.

He said: “I don’t want to be too dismissive of him because I think he’s a really good coach and it’s really interesting in the way he plays, but what I would maybe say is I think with Spurs and having [Mauricio] Pochettino, I kind of felt that was a situation where I felt like the protege was a better version of the mentor.

“It may be harsh to say on Bielsa but I kind of feel like Poch has now overtaken him in terms of his ceiling as it were. I think if you’re going with Bielsa you’re kind of going back to a more basic version of Poch almost and I think allied to the fact that he can’t speak English and he probably wouldn’t last 48 hours with Daniel Levy.

“I just think it’s a gamble and I think Spurs, if they’re going to take a gamble this summer, it has to be a very calculated one and I just think he’s probably too fiery really.”

Since taking over at Elland Road, Bielsa has taken charge of 136 matches with Leeds, winning 70, drawing 22 and losing 44 in the process (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Alasdair Gold’s comments on Bielsa…

Given how Bielsa has taken Leeds from the Championship to the Premier League after a 16-year absence and put them in a mid-table spot in the table with just a handful of games left to play in the campaign, there’s no doubting that he is a good coach and has done a great job with the Yorkshire club, in our view.

In regards to the Spurs job, unless Bielsa cements his future at Leeds with a new deal when his current one expires this summer, then the Argentine should be considered as a potential candidate to take over at Tottenham.
