Another night, another chaotic series of events in the good old Barclays. We all know the Premier League is one of the best divisions in world football, but the drama seems to be continuous as we continue on through the second half of the campaign. From clubs dropping points when they shouldn’t to underdogs shocking everyone, the constant stream of surprises will never cease to amaze.
Last night, we had another dose as Tottenham Hotspur played host to Southampton. After an incredibly back and forth 90 minutes, it was the Saints who managed to edge themselves ahead and claim all three points.
VAR controversy continues
Steven Bergwijn thought he’d managed to grab a late equaliser for Spurs but in the end, it wasn’t to be, with VAR ruling that he had just drifted offside. The outpouring of frustration from football fans continues to go on and on but at this moment in time, it doesn’t look like a whole lot is going to be done about it. The decision was likely correct, based on your perspective, but that doesn’t change how people view the system.
The Hasenhuttl pride
“We played fantastic football and deserved to take something,” Hassenhuttl said. “We believed in us and the mentality and character of the team is outrageous, it is fantastic to watch, they are fighting for everything. The whole performance was by far the best since I was here”. If that isn’t the sign of a proud manager we don’t know what is – and it also happens to be incredibly reassuring for a side in their position.
Spurs (still) in trouble
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club can bring in whoever they want (and they have done), but it isn’t going to make the slightest shred of difference if they can’t change the mentality at the club. They continually fall short when it matters the most and if they’re serious about making a sustained push for the top four, Antonio Conte is going to need to put in the managerial shift of his life to make it happen.
