Toronto FC announced Thursday that the club has accepted an offer and agreed on terms to transfer Canadian international defender Richie Laryea to Nottingham Forest Football Club of the EFL Championship.
“It has been a pleasure to see Richie blossom here at his hometown club and become a full member of the Canadian National Team,” said Toronto FC President Bill Manning. “Richie thrilled our fans with his explosive speed, incredible dribbling and commitment to win. We worked closely with Richie and his representation on this transaction as he follows his dream to play in England and wish him all the best as he moves on to Nottingham Forest.”
Laryea, 27, recently completed his third season with Toronto FC after joining on March 21, 2019. He made 83 appearances across all competitions with nine goals and 12 assists for the Reds. Laryea was a key member in the club’s run to the Eastern Conference Championship and advancing to MLS Cup in 2019 as well as helping the Reds finish with the second-best record during the 2020 MLS regular season. Last season, he made 33 appearances across all competitions with three goals and one assist.
Laryea has earned 22 caps and scored one goal with three assists for the Canadian National team. His most recent cap came during Canada’s 2-1 win against Mexico on November 17, 2021 in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification match.
