Tim Sherwood makes Manchester United top four claim

Tim Sherwood has claimed that he is backing Manchester United for a top-four finish ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham, as he told Premier League Productions.

The former Spurs boss admitted that ‘Arsenal are the best team’, but he would rather be in Man United’s dressing room.

Well, the Premier League table states that it’s Arsenal who are leading the top-four charge ahead of their rivals.

Not only are they sitting in fourth spot, but they are one point ahead of Man United, with a staggering three games in hand.

Added with that, they are three points ahead of their north London rivals, with a game in hand, so the ball is well and truly in their court.

Despite that, Sherwood explained why he is still backing those struggling in Manchester to finish in the top-four again.

“I really believe it is down to the head-to-head in who finishes fourth,” said Sherwood. “If I was making a bet now, I would say Man United would still be my favourites.

“They have the best players, now in spite of the manager, I think they can get fourth place. I don’t think the manager sets them up correctly. I think if you can get the likes of Ronaldo back on that pitch. Get him scoring big goals. The likes of Varane. Pogba and Bruno.

“If something happened to Kane or Son, especially Kane, then Tottenham’s chances would be over.

“Arsenal are the best team, at the moment. I think Mikel has done a good job. He has the young players playing well. But I don’t think they have enough firepower – but I would like to be managing Manchester United in the top four race.”

Given the mess Manchester United have been in this season, many will question how they can muster up a fight to secure Champions League.

But, with the individual qualities they have, when they do have these head-to-head battles, as they will against Spurs on Saturday, then they will back themselves.

In truth, it’s Arsenal who probably deserve it on the basis of what has happened this season.

Mikel Arteta has the youngest squad in the league that, at the start, was being mocked from pillar to post.

Yet, after failing to score or earn a single point during the early exchanges of this campaign, it would be something if they can return to Champions League football again.
