Three Manchester United players who have a point to prove vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United know that anything other than a positive Premier League result against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday will probably seal the fate of their boss.

Every minute that passes by without a victory, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shelf life in the dugout decreases.

Losing in such emphatic fashion at Old Trafford to Liverpool last weekend has left virtually no room for error.

Spurs – who aren’t in much better shape themselves – present a real opportunity for Solskjaer to make a statement.

Not to mention the players he picks this weekend, most of whom should still be hurting from that Liverpool loss.

Here are three United stars we think have a huge point to prove in the upcoming clash with Spurs:

Harry Maguire

The royal hiding from the Reds was arguably United’s darkest hour since Alex Ferguson retired.

It was also potentially the worst performance of Harry Maguire’s senior career.

His display hardly set a captain’s example to the rest of his teammates.

He was definitely at fault for Liverpool’s second goal and didn’t do much to prevent the other four.

Maguire hasn’t looked right since returning from a calf problem.

A huge game versus Spurs will be needed from the skipper if he is to avoid further external damage.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo can’t have been on the end of many 5-0 drubbings across his illustrious career.

Unfortunately, he did very little to prevent such a scoreline, admittedly not aided by those also languishing around him.

His afternoon was summed up by two moments.

The kick-out at Curtis Jones in the second half highlighted the frustration ringing around the Theatre of Dreams.

Ronaldo did manage to beat Alisson, only to see his effort chalked off by VAR for offside.

The 36-year-old’s reluctance to pressurise was evident once again, a trait that’s becoming a major thorn in United’s side.

CR7 needs to silence the doubters with a loud ‘Sui’ celebration.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s key strength is his tackling.

Against Liverpool, the defender managed one all match.

Additionally, the full-back made a poor judgemental call by rushing out of position for Liverpool’s opener.

Things have been pretty plain sailing for Wan-Bissaka since he signed for United two years ago.

But the Merseyside massacre expanded a lot of his faults and areas that need improving.

With the January transfer window looming, Solskjaer might be looking to land another right-back.

AWB better show the manager he does not need to recruit in that position versus Spurs.
