Sporting Kansas City II (3-11-5, 14 points) and Atlanta United 2 (5-7-7, 22 points) will square off in the third of four head-to-head meetings this season on Saturday afternoon at Children’s Mercy Park. The USL Championship Central Division showdown will kick off at 4 p.m. CT and stream live on ESPN Plus.
Led by fourth-year head coach and former Sporting Kansas City midfielder Paulo Nagamura, Sporting KC II took a 4-2 road loss to Central Division contenders Birmingham Legion FC on Wednesday night. Petar Cuic and Jamil Roberts bagged their first goals of the season for SKC II, but second-place Birmingham rode strikes from Neco Brett, J.J. Williams, Junior Flemmings and Anderson Asiedu to claim a dramatic victory in a game that produced four goals in the final 20 minutes.
Winger Enoch Mushagalusa and Sporting KC II have held the upper hand against Atlanta this season, taking a win and a draw in two preivous meetings at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia. Mushagalusa, who leads SKC II with six goals in 2021, has struck three times against Atlanta, including a brace in a 2-2 draw on June 9 and a 1-0 triumph on July 10.
Atlanta United 2 settled for a 2-2 tie with OKC Energy FC on Wednesday, three days after thrashing Indy Eleven 6-2 with a hat trick from Tyler Wolff, the son of Sporting Legend and Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff.
