Southampton predicted lineup vs Watford

Ralph Hasenhuttl will be hoping Southampton show a greater clinical edge when they visit Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Saints spurned a host of glorious opportunities in their 2-2 draw with Burnley last weekend, before falling on the wrong side of the margins in their penalty shootout defeat to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Hasenhuttl’s men sit just four points above the relegation zone, but they could leapfrog Watford in the table with a victory this weekend.

Here’s how Southampton could line up.

Alex McCarthy (GK) – Will need to be at his best to thwart a Watford side brimming with goal confidence.

Tino Livramento (RB) – Often Southampton’s chief attacking threat, worrying opposition full backs with his pace and trickery.

Jan Bednarek (CB) – The experienced head at the heart of Hasenhuttl’s backline.

Mohammed Salisu (CB) – The 22-year-old has stepped up this season following the departure of Jannik Vestergaard.

Romain Perraud (LB) – A steady presence on the left hand side and, at 24, there’s still scope for improvement.

Stuart Armstrong (RM) – Started in the midweek Carabao Cup exit to Chelsea, boosting his odds of a first start upon his return from injury.

James Ward-Prowse (CM) – Should go straight back into the heart of midfield after serving his suspension for a red card against Chelsea earlier this month.

Oriol Romeu (CM) – Provides the base in which Southampton are allowed to play from.

Nathan Redmond (LM) – Mohamed Elyounoussi had minor surgery earlier in the week, and that could allow the Englishman’s pace to be released on the flanks.

Che Adams (ST) – Netted the Saints’ equaliser against Chelsea in midweek and he could be rewarded with a start amid Adam Armstrong’s profligacy.

Armando Broja (ST) – The teenager has become a bit of a talisman for Southampton in recent weeks, netting in consecutive Premier League outings.
