Sevilla approach Diego Martínez to replace Julen Lopetegui

Marca report that Sevilla have approached Diego Martínez to replace Julen Lopetegui, who looks set to leave the club.

Sevilla sporting director Monchi reportedly wants Martínez to be the club’s next manager.

After leaving Granada, the Galician has spent a year out of the game, waiting for the right opportunity, and rejecting offers during the course of the season.

Valencia have previously been in talks with the 41-year-old, and Espanyol also offered him the job and even reached an agreement in principle.

The interest from Monchi could see Martínez, who previously coached at the club, return to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Martínez was part of Unai Emery’s coaching staff when the current Villarreal manager was in charge of Sevilla. He was part of the team’s first Europa League triumph, before taking charge of the reserve team, who he helped guide to the Second Division in 2015-16.
