BUENOS AIRES, July 24 (Xinhua) — Buenos Aires giants Boca Juniors overcame the absence of their entire first-team squad to earn an unlikely 0-0 draw at Banfield in Argentina’s Primera Division on Saturday.
Boca were forced to tap their youth academy after Argentina’s health ministry ordered a seven-day home quarantine for all senior players and coaching staff because of alleged breaches of health protocols during a Copa Libertadores game in Brazil.
Most of the players called upon for Saturday’s clash at El Lencho, on the southern outskirts of Buenos Aires, were under the age of 20 with no prior first-team experience.
The result leaves Boca Juniors and Banfield occupying 12th and 13th places, respectively, in Argentina’s 26-team top flight standings, having both drawn their first two matches of the season.
In Saturday’s only other fixture, Racing Club were held to a goalless home draw by Gimnasia y Esgrima.
