Perr Schuurs insists he is happy at Ajax despite his role as a reserve this season.

Schuurs has made 10 appearances in the Ajax first team this season, with most of those from the bench. He has lost his starting place to Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez, who are the undisputed pairing at the back.

Speaking to Ajax TV, Schuurs, said, “Of course, I get a little less minutes than during the first period of last season. I’m trying to take steps in that to get better and that’s going well. I’m a team player and I’m happy with how we are doing at the moment. If you see how we are performing in the Champions League now, that’s something we can be very proud of, and which I am very happy with. Despite the fact that I don’t play much, I often realize what kind of top club I play for.”

Schuurs started the win over Sparta Rotterdam at the weekend and he is hoping for more minutes in the second half off the season, “That is of course up to the trainer. We lost some points in December last year, and so far we have already lost too many points in the Eredivisie. It is our job to win all games in December and grab all the points.

“I hope there are as many minutes as possible for me, but in the end, the most important thing is that we win. I am confident that there will be more minutes for me in the second half of the season. There are many games, so I hope to make more minutes.”
