As 2020 comes to a close, we look back on some of the best moments from a memorable year on our official Twitter account.
STOP THE COUNT
Our most engaged tweet ever was the result of some fortuitous timing – Saints going top of the Premier League 24 hours after Donald Trump’s infamous post that followed Joe Biden’s Presidential election victory. He might have been serious, but we weren’t (well, not entirely).
MUTING THAT RESULT
Remember that game from October 2019 against Leicester? If not, watch any of our matches on TV and you’ll usually be reminded within about five minutes of kick-off! Well, before we played our next game against the Foxes, in early January, we thought we’d have a bit of fun with it ourselves.
BLOCKING LEICESTER
Ok, so we had some fun with it in January, but by the time the anniversary rolled around again in October we didn’t really fancy hearing about it anymore (and we did unblock them, as promised!).
NOUGHTS AND CROSSES
With the nation sent into lockdown in March, and Premier League football brought to a halt, we thought we might as well try to have a game of something with our scheduled opponents that weekend, Norwich. Unfortunately, they didn’t seem so keen, so we subbed in a willing Man City instead…
And we ended up with a hard-earned point!
HOW IT ACTUALLY STARTED
With Gareth Bale the talk of the footballing world after returning to England in October, we thought we’d issue a helpful reminder for anyone not aware of where his career actually started.

And you can keep on missing him!
ENOUGH ALREADY!
We always enjoy a bit of good-natured fun with the Liverpool fans. Seriously, though, you’ve had enough!
HOW DO YOU STOP DANNY INGS?
2020 was one of those years when it seemed Danny couldn’t stop scoring. We tried to find out how you can do it, but even Google’s suggestions appeared limited (type in the coordinates if you haven’t already).

Poor Danny. What a year for this to be cancelled!
OH WHAT FUN IT IS TO SEE SOUTHAMPTON WIN AWAY!
The 2019/20 season was a spectacular one for Saints on the road, with a club record number of away victories, and we marked it with this special video, as Ralph got the Super Mario treatment, jumping (and stomping!) his way to a new high score.
THAT’S SALISU… AT LAST!
What to do when fans relentlessly respond to your tweets with “That’s not Salisu” memes over the off-season and you then finally sign him? Use all the memes in your announcement video, of course.
IT’S DONE… APPARENTLY!
What to do when your manager announces a signing early? Panic!
THEO COMES HOME
14 years, eight months and 16 days after he said goodbye to Saints for Arsenal, Theo Walcott returned home in October, and we marked the moment with this special video celebrating his signing on loan from Everton.
Unfortunately, even our extreme measures of keeping Ralph quiet on this one didn’t mean we were able to keep it under wraps…
