Alexis Saelemaekers finally scored this season as Milan beat Salernitana 2-0.
After two consecutive defeats to Fiorentina and Sassuolo, conceding 7 goals, Milan have now connected two wins in a row, keeping a clean sheet in both – beating Genoa 3-0 on Wednesday and Salernitana 2-0 on Saturday.
Alexis Saelemaekers was instrumental in the win of the Rossoneri today, doubling Milan’s lead in the 18′ minute, following Franck Kessié’s opener in the 5′ minute.
After scoring, Alexis lifted the shirt of Simon Kjær in the air, to dedicate his goal to the Dane center back who is out for 6 months after undergoing knee surgery on Friday.
“I feel good now, it’s true that it was important for me to score but it was also important that we won today. We now need to prepare well for Tuesday’s game against Liverpool, which is a massive match for us. I’m happy for the whole team.”
On Kjær: “Simon is a big player for us, it’s a difficult time for us, it’s tough for him and his family but also for us because he helps the team in each game and it was nice for me to score this goal for him.”
On the quick goals: “The coach said it before in the dressing room: we needed to dictate the game and start off well. That’s what we did. We scored these two goals, which was really important but maybe it’s a shame that we didn’t score more in the second half but we just needed to focus on the win today.”
On Liverpool: “I think it’ll be a really tough game because Liverpool are one of the best teams in world football right now, if we have the same mindset as we did against Atlético, we’ll put in a big performance and maybe even win.”
