Motherwell have re-signed winger Rolando Aarons on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old Jamaican international had a previous spell at Fir Park curtailed by the Covid pandemic while still under contract at Newcastle United.

He has since moved on to Championship outfit Huddersfield Town, but returns to North Lanarkshire on a temporary deal.

Aarons scored once in eight appearances for the club in the 2019/20 season before the campaign was ended early by the shutdown.

He previously played 27 times in both the Premier League and Championship for the Magpies, but featured just once for Huddersfield last season in an injury-hit period.

“Rolando is a target I had earmarked even before I got the job as I saw first-hand his qualities and potential when he was last here,” boss Steven Hammell told the club’s website.

“When I spoke with him, you could tell he was very keen to join us. He’s a player with so much to offer. He has pace, he’s direct with a lot of energy and will give us more options on either the left or right flank.

“He’s had a frustrating time with injuries in the last year or so and just needs to get back playing regularly again. We think Motherwell is the perfect platform for him to do that.”

Motherwell host Championship outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the second round of the Premier Sports Cup on Wednesday.
