BUENOS AIRES, July 16 (Xinhua) — Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo converted a late penalty as Boca Juniors snapped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Talleres Cordoba in Argentina’s Primera Division on Saturday.

Rojo held his nerve in the 80th minute after Dario Benedetto was brought down by Rafael Perez inside the area. In addition to conceding the penalty, Perez was sent off for his second bookable offense.

Boca, who had not registered a victory in any competition since June 19, rose to 10th in the 28-team standings while Talleres dropped to 27th.

Earlier on Saturday, Newell’s Old Boys missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the standings when they were held to a goalless home draw by Racing Club.

Argentinos Juniors won 3-1 at Barracas, Gimnasia was held to a goalless home draw by Colon, and Rosario Central drew 0-0 at Independiente.
