Real Salt Lake Welcome LAFC in Rio Tinto Stadium’s Return to Full Capacity

HERRIMAN, Utah – On Saturday, July 3, Real Salt Lake will welcome Western Conference foes, Los Angeles FC, to Rio Tinto Stadium for the venue’s first full capacity match since March 7, 2020. A limited number of tickets are available at RSL.com.


The match will be broadcast live locally on KMYU and via stream on the KSL TV app. ESPN 700 will carry the English radio broadcast and Spanish-speaking fans can tune in on KBMG Latino 106.3, La Gran D 102.3 and KTUB 1600.

Following the game Real Salt Lake will host a firework show to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.

Head-to-Head: Real Salt Lake has a 1-5-0 record against the LAFC with an 1-3-0 record at home.

The last time RSL hosted LAFC at Rio Tinto Stadium the home team earned a 3-0 victory behind goals from Damir Kreilach, Justin Meram and Albert Rusnak on September 9, 2020.

Welcome Home

Saturday’s match will mark the first homecoming for former Homegrown Corey Baird since he was traded to LAFC prior to the 2021 season beginning. Since joining the California team the forward has racked up three goals and two assists in nine matches.

This is Our House

This season Real Salt Lake is currently 2-1-3 at Rio Tinto Stadium, earning nine out of a possible 18 points. However, in 2019 when RSL enjoyed full capacity the team earned a 12-4-1 at the RioT, the second most wins at home in the league.

LAFC will be without central defender Tristan Blackmon who received a red card in their match against Sporting Kansas City. The defender has appeared in nine games for the Black and Gold this season.

Connections: This offseason RSL traded Homegrown Player Corey Baird to LAFC in exchange for $500,000 in General Allocation Money, a 2021 international roster spot and future considerations. Baird was named 2018 MLS Rookie of the Year and recorded 15 goals and 13 assists in 81 appearances.
