It is an open secret that Real Madrid have been linked with both, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. The Whites were extremely close to signing Kylian Mbappe last summer for a fee of €180 million from Paris Saint-Germain but the latter rejected the offer, in a bid to extend their striker’s stay.
Mbappe to Real Madrid can be considered as almost done as the player wants Real and Real wants him. It is likely that the deal could be made official post the completion of the Real Madrid-PSG UEFA Champions League tie. While the relationship between the two clubs is basically stranded, it is unlikely to stop Mbappe from joining the club of his dreams.
Madrid, though, have also been linked with a move for Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund striker has caught the attention of several elite European clubs that are looking to land the 21-year-old next summer. The Norweigan striker has a €75 million release clause that becomes active next summer and is likely to be triggered. The likes of Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested in signing the prospect.
Real Madrid make an early offer to Erling Haaland
However, as per a report from Sport, Madrid have made an early offer to Haaland, who is yet to decide his future. The striker has been asked by Borussia Dortmund to make a decision on his future and it is likely that by the end of March, we will have the answer if he is set to leave the Schwarz Gelben.
The source understands that Florentino Perez wants to mark the beginning of a new ‘Galactico era’ with two of the hottest prospects leading the charge. Haaland and Mbappe are widely regarded as two of the best strikers of their generation and have been tipped to dominate European football for years to come. That said, the offer made to Haaland is rumoured to be very lucrative and that only the player’s ‘OK’ is missing.
Manchester City and Barcelona are also considered as the favorites apart from Real Madrid, to sign the Dortmund striker. However, with the player said to be looking to play in Spain rather than in England and with Barca’s financial woes, Madrid clearly stand as the favourite to sign him. Having said that, the Los Cules are confident about gathering the bare minimum funds required to lure the Norweigan international to Camp Nou but do understand that it is very very complicated for them.
Earlier, it was understood that the Los Blancos wanted Haaland to spend another year at Dortmund to grow before joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2023. This would be the time when Haaland’s potential entry would coincide with Benzema’s contract expiry. The French striker has come good for the former La Liga champions this term, at the age of 34. It is highly likely that this season is perhaps the last of the best version of Benzema that we get to witness.
What remains to be seen is if Haaland would be willing to play with Mbappe at this stage of his career. Both the players are said to be rivals and future Ballan d’Or contenders.
