Real Madrid want to make the dream of signing Mbappe into a reality
We all knew it was only a matter of time before Real Madrid officially made their presence known and made a bid for Paris Saint-Germain star, Kylian Mbappe.
According to ESPN, the Spanish giants presented a bid of €160 million for the French forward, which was immediately rejected by PSG.
Madrid had been preparing all summer to make a bid and sold the likes of Martin Ødegaard and Raphael Varane to raise the money to make such a move possible. However, their initial offer was nowhere close to the €200 million PSG want for Mbappe.
The Frenchman is on his last year of his contract and has reportedly turned down a number of proposals from PSG. Having stated on numerous occasions that Mbappe wasn’t going anywhere, PSG have now opened the door to a possible exit.
The Ligue 1 giants do not want to risk losing him on a free at the end of the season but would also rather not sell him to a Champions League rival. PSG hoped the Lionel Messi signing would prove to be enough of a motivator to convince him to stay and sign a new deal. Things have not played out that way with Mbappe still angling for a move.
On the Real Madrid side of the equation, €160 million does seem like a lot to pay for a player entering the last year of their contract. But president Florentino Perez has become almost obsessed with signing Mbappe and wants to make the 22-year-old the acquisition to headline the unveiling of the new and improved Santiago Bernabeu.
In any case, one could argue that there are only a handful of players at the moment worth such an exorbitant amount. Mbappe is one and the other is Erling Haaland.
PSG seem to be sticking to their price tag. If Real Madrid want Mbappe, they know how much they need to pay. The transfer window closes on Aug. 31 meaning there isn’t much time left to try to hash out a deal.
Either Real Madrid match PSG’s price or bank on the fact Mbappe wants to join them next season. If he winds down his contract and becomes a free agent, there are going to be a number of teams, some better off than Los Blancos, in line to try to sway the forward to sign for them instead.
