Real Madrid could still make summer effort to sign Liverpool star | Shoot

Liverpool players and fans alike will want to put the memory of last season firmly behind them as soon as possible, with the Reds’ defence of their first ever Premier League title having gone far from to plan.

Jurgen Klopp’s side failed miserably to stop Manchester City from steamrolling their way to a fifth Premier League title, and the Reds themselves relied on a scintillating end of season run of form to secure themselves Champions League football for next term.

Since the end of the season, Klopp’s side have lost midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, with the Dutch midfielder departing on a free transfer and joining French side Paris Saint-Germain.

Now, Klopp could face another battle to keep hold of one of his players, with Spanish outlet Fichajes reporting that Spanish giants Real Madrid are eyeing up a move for Mohamed Salah, if they fail in their attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe.

Salah has been sensational for Liverpool.

The report states that Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, who departed Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton in May, is pleading with the club’s bosses to make an offer for Salah if they fail to land Mbappe.

Despite Liverpool’s disappointing season, the Egyptian still remains arguably the most important player in Klopp’s squad having scored 31 goals in 51 games across all competitions last term.

Salah has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital in recent seasons, but a move has yet to materialise.

If the 29-year-old were to depart, the Reds would likely be tempted to delve into the market to replace the man who has scored a remarkable 125 goals and registered a further 47 assists in 203 games for the Merseysiders.

Diogo Jota was signed last summer to reinforce the Reds’ attacking arsenal, but the Portugal international may struggle to fill the void alone if Salah did move on.
