Rangers handed Joey Veerman transfer boost as pathway clears for Ibrox bid

Rangers have been handed another boost in their pursuit of Heerenveen playmaker Joey Veerman, as reports in Holland suggest interest in him from elsewhere is dwindling.

Steven Gerrard is looking to add another midfielder to his ranks before the window closes and Veerman has long been touted for a potential move.

That comes off the back of a formidable 2020/21 season where Veerman notched nine goals and 11 assists despite Heerenveen’s underwhelming mid-table finish.

As the Dutch side’s standout player, he has been heavily linked with various moves but one by one they have fallen by the wayside.

Feyenoord appear to have given up on him despite his apparent desire to join them, while Serie A side Hellas Verona have been priced out of a move.

And it’s now being reported by Dutch outlet Leeuwarder Courant that Heerenveen aren’t anticipating any further bids in the near future.

That opens the door to Rangers who appear to have the floor to themselves if they wish to launch a bid.

An asking price of around £7m has been mooted for the 23-year-old and that would be steep for Rangers.

But it’s not outwith the realms of possibility – especially if they can make it beyond Malmo and to within one game of the Champions League group stage.

Veerman would become Rangers’ fourth signing of the summer after John Lundstram, Fashion Sakala and Nnamdi Ofoborh.
