CALMAC CLASSIC
By Robert Martin
Stan Petrov hailed Captain Fantastic Callum McGregor after Celtic’s win at Ibrox.
The Scotland star played a huge role in helping the Hoops get back into the game following Aaron Ramsay’s opener.
It was McGregor’s surging run that led to Tom Rogic’s leveller just four minutes after Gers had gone ahead.
And Petrov said: “Callum has been an incredible leader this season.
“When Scott Brown left he had to step in, had to show everyone that he is built to be a captain and lead the team, especially this season.
“This season has been different, they had to perform, they had to make something happen and they had a lot of new players who had to adjust to playing in Scotland.
“He managed to help them settle in and he leads them by example on every single game.”
Ange Postecoglou’s men had to dig deep as Rangers dominated possession after the break.
And Petrov was impressed at how Celtic stood firm in the face of relentless pressure.
He said: “It was a solid performance in a different way.
“They had to really defend, they weren’t in control of the game.
“Rangers were more aggressive, they wanted to win the game more. And you can understand that.
“But Celtic managed to be clinical at the right moments.”
