Performances may not be there quite yet but Racing Club chalked up a fourth straight win since that heavy defeat to River Plate in the Supercopa. Monday evening’s 1-0 win over Argentinos Juniors took La Academia into second in Group A, level on points with three other sides all chasing leaders Colón.
Leonel Miranda scored the only goal in the 72nd minute but once again youngster Iván Maggi played a key role off the bench, pulling the ball back for the midfielder to slot past Lucas Chaves.
Juan Antonio Pizzi has gone some way to answer his critics with recent results and may now need to think about partnering Maggi with the impressive Enzo Copetti in attack if Racing are to push on and truly improve.
Earlier Arsenal ended their run of five straight defeats and although it wasn’t to be a first win of the season the goalless draw with Platense did earn Sergio Rondina’s side a point.
Arsenal remain rooted to the bottom of Group A with Platense above them on five points.
