Mauricio Pochettino was left to rue errors on his Paris Saint-Germain team’s part as they fell behind to Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
After Marquinhos had opened the scoring in the first leg, Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez‘s somewhat fortunate goals saw City turn the tie in their favour.
“I think we deserved to go into the dressing room with the advantage, but [in the] second half, they were better than us,” Pochettino admitted to BT Sport.
“They dominated. If you see [their] goals, I think they were two accidents.
“But in the end, they dominated more in the second half and they created more than us. It was one half for each.
“With the two goals, we feel very disappointed. The players, us, everyone.
“It was difficult to accept that something happened in the semi-final and that is really, really painful.”
After City‘s two goals, PSG were reduced to 10 men when Idrissa Gueye was sent off for a foul on Ilkay Gundogan.
“It was an action like De Bruyne [on Danilo] and it can be yellow, can be red,” Pochettino commented.
“I’m not going to complain about that. Only maybe that it was an action that you cannot stick with the game. It was an individual action.”
Despite the disappointing first leg result, PSG‘s boss is remaining upbeat going into the second leg in Manchester.
“In football, you need to believe,” Pochettino added.
“You need to go there in six [days] and try to do the same, to approach the game like today – to win, to score goals.
“We were in a little bit [of trouble] with the advantage of Manchester City but, in football, you always need to try.”
