Arsenal’s deadwood clearout

Arsenal have been intent on clearing out the deadwood in their side since time immemorial, and so far their attempt this summer has been as unsuccessful as their previous efforts. The likes of Lucas Torreira, Sead Kolasinac and Willian still remain at the club, while Matteo Guendouzi and Dinos Mavropanos have departed on loan deals with obligations to buy.

After a disappointing start to the season, which has seen Mikel Arteta’s side fail to pick up a point or, more worryingly still, score a goal, there has to be movement in the final week of the transfer window.

Rumours have surfaced of potential swap deals for the likes of Hector Bellerin and Alexandre Lacazette, but there are plenty of other players that must depart the club ahead of the first-team regulars.

Failure to get the last week of the window right for the Gunner could, unfortunately for their fans, make a potentially long season even longer.

Price set for Nketiah

With that being said, one of those that Edu and Arteta are looking to move on is Eddie Nketiah, although a knee injury has prevented him from moving on so far.

And price difference could keep him at the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Crystal Palace and an “unnamed” German club willing to pay 10 million pounds for the England U21 record scorer, as per the Athletic.

However, Arsenal are thought to be demanding double that at present, holding out for 20 million pounds. With just 12 months left to run on his current deal however, Arsenal have little power over the future of Nketiah if they do not accept the offers in the next week.

After all, 10 million pounds is better than losing the youngster on a free.
