New York City Football Club were on the road Sunday as they took on Philadelphia Union. The hosts took a ninth-minute lead through striker Mikael Uhre. NYCFC continued to push for an equalizer and in the 89thminute they were awarded a penalty that Castellanos expertly dispatched past Andre Blake. The Union scored a go-ahead goal in the 97th-minute by Corey Burke.

New York City Football Club traveled to Subaru Park aiming for three points against the Philadelphia Union.
Interim Head Coach Nick Cushing made five changes to the starting XI that competed in the U.S. Open Cup midweek, with Sean Johnson, Talles Magno, Maxi Moralez, Nicolás Acevedo, and Chris Gloster returning to the side.
The Boys in Blue started the game at a fast pace and sought to press the Union in their defensive third whenever possible.
The hosts would take the lead in the 9th minute when a low cross from Bedoya was turned in by Mikael Uhre.
Philly continued to push on transition and Uhre thought he had a second in the 16th minute – a fantastic point-blank stop from Johnson denying him.
Johnson would endure a busy first half hour and was required on several occasions to keep the score at just 1-0.
At the other end, some neat build-up on the edge of the box allowed Santiago Rodríguez to fire off a drive that Andre Blake tipped over.
In the 42nd minute, an effort from Moralez deflected back out to Gloster, but his effort ended up in the hands of Blake.
The start of the second half brought two changes for NYCFC as Anton Tinnerholm and Malte Amundsen subbed in for Tayvon Gray and Gloster.
The team’s first real chance of the half came after a delightful quick interchange between Taty Castellanos and Talles Magno that allowed the latter a shot from the edge of the box.
NYCFC continued to push for an equalizer and Cushing turned to his bench again in the 69th minute as he introduced Gabriel Pereira for Rodríguez.
Héber would enter the game in the 81st minute as he replaced Acevedo.
In the 84th minute, a good interception by Talles Magno allowed him a look at goal from the top of the box but he would not generate the power.
The Boys in Blue thought they had a shout for a penalty when Tinnerholm’s cross hit Kai Wagner – the referee awarding the spot-kick after consulting with his assistant.
Castellanos stepped up to the spot and calmly dispatched the spot-kick to the bottom left corner, sending Blake the wrong way in the process.
Sensing a chance to win the game NYCFC pushed for a second and a brilliant diagonal ball from Héber allowed Pereira a run at his man that ended with a corner.
It would be the Union that struck next, however,
NYCFC thought they had a second call for a penalty deep into injury time when Nathan Harriel appeared to handle the ball, but after consultation with VAR the referee opted to end the game – confirming a 2-1 defeat for NYCFC on the road.
