Relegated MTN Super League side Napsa Stars FC will start life in the second-tier football league of Zambia under new coach Perry Mutapa.

A statement from Napsa Board chairman John Chundu confirmed that Mutapa has signed a one-year contract with the pensioners.

“After conducting interviews, we are more than thrilled and delighted to have settled for Mr. Mutapa as our Head Coach. We believe he is an experienced coach, and he will help us quickly bounce back to the Super League where we belong,” Chundu said.

Last season, Mutapa was a coach for Power Dynamos FC but he was eventually sent on an administrative leave in May 2021, before the two sides parted ways amicably last month.

The former South Africa’s Orlando Pirates midfielder also had a coaching stint with Forest Rangers FC in Zambia.

Mutapa has replaced at Napsa Egyptian mentor Mohamed Fathi who was never recalled from a forced leave just as relegation from the MTN Super League looked imminent.

Napsa will now be campaigning in the National First Division just a year after representing Zambia in the Caf Confederation Cup following a fourth-place finish in the previous season.
