Paulo Fonseca to Tottenham Hotspur is off?

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a new manager will continue as the club has called off their move to sign Paulo Fonseca as Jose Mourinho’s replacement.

Tottenham Hotspur were closer to an agreement but the former AS Roma gaffer has walked away from the commitment. Though there is no official information available, Fabrizio Romano believes it is the “huge fiscal problem” resulting in calling off the talks.

According to recent reports, it is a tax advantage that has affected the transfer talks which was in the final stages. Paulo Fonseca had an advantage that applies when in Italy (Italian Law) but is not applicable in the UK.

Fabrizio Romano broke the news on his Twitter handle, sending Lillywhites’ fans into trauma mode. He said:

Incredible Tottenham again. There are huge fiscal problems to complete the appointment of Fonseca as new manager despite verbal agreement completed and contract set to be signed, as reported on @SkySport @DiMarzio. #THFC That’s why Fonseca has NOT signed yet with Spurs

Previously, Daniel Levy was in talks with former Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte to replace Jose Mourinho.

Levy sacked Mourinho in April and succeeded him with Ryan Mason as the caretaker manager. However, Spurs are still searching for their new permanent boss while other clubs are engaged in transfer business for new arrivals.

Tottenham are NOT intentioned to cover the economic difference on fiscal side with Fonseca – he was set to sign after contract verbally agreed, it was done… but talks have now broken down. #THFC Tottenham search now restarted. Jorge Mendes will try with Gattuso

When the talks broke down between Spurs and Antonio Conte, the financial crisis was the reason. And now once again, Paulo Fonseca has rejected Tottenham because of the same issue.

It remains interesting to see if any manager would be okay with Daniel Levy and his approach for the 2021/22 season.

The renowned transfer journalist also said that the North London outfit will hold talks with former Fiorentina manager, Gattuso.

Gennaro Gattuso left Fiorentina after just three weeks of him being appointed as their new manager.

It is indeed a tough time for a Tottenham Hotspur fan. Though Heung Min Son is closer to a new contract, his partner-in-crime, Harry Kane, is looking to force a transfer away from North London.

Who will be Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager? How about Harry Kane as a player-manager for Spurs? Have your say below!
