Dani Alves is returning to Barcelona. The Catalan club confirmed the news on Friday night.
Barcelona reached an agreement with Alves to sign for one season but the deal includes a clause to extend his contract until June 2023.
The Brazilian has joined as a free agent, having terminated his contract with São Paulo in September.
The rampaging right-back left Barça in 2016 with 23 titles to his name and Barcelona see him as being a very useful addition in a number of ways. He will bring experience to a young team. In addition to the strength he will give to the team on the pitch, he will also be key in the development of fellow right-back Sergiño Dest, who will have one of the best full-backs in history as a mentor.
The 38-year-old will train with Xavi’s Barcelona from next week but won’t be able to play officially until January. His previous spell at the club was between 2008/09 and 2015/16 before he went on to play for Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and lastly São Paulo.
