Newcastle United: Liam Kennedy issues interesting transfer claim

Newcastle United are now ready to act in the market to land a new attacking player, according to Liam Kennedy.

The reliable Toon correspondent was speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel from Austria as Eddie Howe’s men begin their pre-season efforts.

It has been a fairly steady start to the summer window at St. James’ Park with no attacking players brought in yet by Dan Ashworth.

In recent days a number of links have emerged suggesting Newcastle were keen on bringing Alexander Isak in to bolster their attacking force.

However, with conflicting reports on their interest in the Swede, Kennedy believes the club are monitoring the market and will move when they feel they have found the right target:

(33:00) “A lot of talk. I’ve seen a lot of stories and links over the last few days. My understanding of it is that Newcastle United are just watching the market as things stand. They’re ready to act when they need to act.

“They know they need to bring in at least one attacking player whether that be a wide forward or a centre forward to pressure Callum Wilson or even replace him. I think they’re really acutely aware of that.

“Of course, we’re only around three weeks away from the Nottingham Forest game. And I think the idea is that they have at least one of those in place before then.”

TIF Thoughts on Kennedy’s comments…

It is certainly a positive to hear Kennedy suggest the club are ready to act when they find the right target, however, there are now just three weeks until the season kicks off and the Toon do not seem any closer.

Are you happy with the window so far at NUFC?

Yes

No

No

We do think the Toon should be applauded for not rushing into just signing for the sake of it and in certain cases not paying over the odds despite having such wealth behind them.

But with the pre-season tour now underway, we do wonder how much longer Howe will be willing to accept going without any new attacking options given they faced major issues with their strikers last season.
