November 6, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls (13-12-8, 47 points) will head down south for a battle with Nashville SC (12-4-17, 53 points) for MLS Decision Day on Sunday, November 7. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
New York Red Bulls Radio begins at 2:30 p.m. ET with Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Honda, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Stefano Fusaro will carry the Spanish play-by-play responsibilities, beginning at 3 p.m. ET.
The Red Bulls currently sit in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 47 points, which is only one point above the playoff line. If New York win or tie against Nashville on Sunday, they will clinch a spot in the 2021 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. Nashville SC have already clinched a spot in the 2021 playoffs and have clinched a home Round One match. Nashville are currently on a two-match unbeaten streak after battling Orlando City SC to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, October 31.
This match will feature two goalkeepers that have both recorded 13 shutouts this season in Nashville’s Joe Willis and Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel. Coronel earned his 13th shutout of the season on Wednesday night against Atlanta United FC. He is currently tied for first in MLS and is one shutout shy of tying Luis Robles for the most shutouts in a single season. Robles had 14 shutouts during the 2018 season.
This will be the second meeting in the MLS regular season between New York and Nashville, with the Red Bulls winning the only edition on June 18 at Red Bull Arena, 2-0. Brazilian forward Fábio scored his first career MLS goal in the match, which was the game-winner.
New York have won four of their last five road matches and have outscored their opponents, 8-2, in those matches. During the five matches, New York has had six different goal scorers (Fábio – 2, Fernandez – 2, Cásseres – 1, Gutman – 1, Klimala – 1, and Nealis – 1).
Following Sunday’s match, if New York wins or draws, they will clinch a spot in the 2021 MLS Audi Cup Playoffs and await Decision Day results on placement in either a play-in game or top-six spot and opponent.
