The 29-year-old defender joined Schalke from Arsenal last winter, but his 13 appearances and one goal in the second half of the season couldn’t help them avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.
Levante were credited with interest in him a few weeks ago, but reports suggested the deal was on verge of collapsing due to his large wage demands. At one point, he was said to be close to joining Bologna.
However, it seems the issues regarding the personal terms between with the La Liga side have been resolved. He has signed a two-year contract with Levante, with the club having the option to extending by a year more.
