Morocco Goalkeeper Yassine Bono Won La Liga Award Ahead Of Super Eagles Winger

Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bono has beaten Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze to the inaugural La Liga mid-season African Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Bono, who just returned from the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, was rewarded for his exceptional performance for Sevilla.

The 30-year-old Moroccan goalkeeper has been brilliant for Sevilla since he joined the club from Girona in the 2019/2020 campaign. 

He has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Spanish top-flight since he joined Sevilla from Girona.

This season, Bono has kept nine clean sheets in 17 league matches, while he had two clean sheets in six Champions League games.

The goalkeeper beat Nigerian winger Chukwueze and fellow Morocco international Youssef En-Nesyri to the award.

Chukwueze, who also represented Nigeria at the 2021 AFCON, has been gradually working his way back to the top level following a six-month injury layoff.

The Nigeria international has scored two goals in 12 league appearances for Villarreal this season, while he also has one goal in three Champions League matches.
