Middlesbrough join chase for 15-goal striker wanted by Newcastle, West Ham

Middlesbrough have joined a host of the Premier League sides in the chase for Rhys Healey, TEAMtalk understands.

The former Milton Keynes Dons striker is currently starring in France’s second division with Toulouse. Healey, 27, is currently top scorer in Ligue 2, with Toulouse sitting at the top of the table.

The Manchester-born attacker has scored 15 league and cup goals in 26 appearances, as well as grabbing three assists.

Healey was the subject of interest late in the January window by the likes of West Ham, Newcastle, Burnley and Crystal Palace, but he stayed put.

Now a move back to the British mainland is firmly on the cards this summer. And Chris Wilder’s side, pushing for promotion to the Premier League, are taking a keen interest.

Fellow Championship sides Blackburn and Hull City are also keeping tabs on Healey, who netted 14 times last term.

“Last year I had a really good season,” he told the Daily Mirror in November. “After coming from MK Dons, who played good football, I knew I’d fit in straight away.”

MK Dons signed the forward on loan from Cardiff in August 2018,  before signing him on a permanent deal the following summer.

Then 11 goals in 19 league appearances caught the eye of former Liverpool chief Damien Comoli, now at Toulouse.

“The president, Damien (Comoli), has the right structure of what he wants, and we feel like a family out here,” said Healey.

Healey aiming for Ligue 1

“Everyone is helping each other. We have a very young squad but the players here, the quality is second to none and players have gone on to bigger things from here.

“It’s a great club to be at, and hopefully we can carry on our form to get where we want to be.

“Every player wants to achieve more and more. For me, I want to achieve promotion to Ligue 1, I want to get the chance to play in Ligue 1 with Toulouse.

“I also want to give my experience to people in Toulouse as well, because obviously I bring a different culture.

“We’ve got players from Holland, Belgium, Japan, Brazil, so it’s a good mix and I want to play my part in that as well.”

Healey has 18-months left on his current deal in the south of France.
