KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 (Bernama) — The Melaka United women’s football team were crowned champions of the 2022 Tun Sharifah Rodziah Cup after edging Negeri Sembilan 1-0 in the final tonight.
In the match played at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium that was forced into extra time, Melaka United had to wait until the 115th minute of the game before securing their winner through midfielder Fatin Shahida Azmi.
This was Melaka United’s second consecutive title after their 3-1 penalty shootout win against Kedah in the final of the 2019 edition.
It was hard luck for Negeri Sembilan, though, as they had dominated the first 45 minutes right from the starting whistle, creating several chances that went begging.
However, Melaka United, coached by S Ganesan Pillay, found their rhythm in the second half and came very close to breaking the deadlock in the 71st minute through Fatin Shahida, only to see her shot saved by Negeri Sembilan custodian Nur Ezza Ashikin Abdul Razak.
The game ended scoreless in regulation time, and Fatin Shahida’s winner in extra time was enough to send the Melaka United camp into joyous rupture when the final whistle was blown.
