Speaking to Sportitalia in his first full-length interview since leaving Juventus at the end of last year, now-Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri notably discussed his time with the Bianconeri and the sour ending that saw him leave Turin.

The Biancoceleste manager also looked ahead to his upcoming clash on the bench against José Mourinho, who has taken charge of city rivals Roma.

“My Scudetto win was taken for granted, on the outside but also within the club. We won a Scudetto without celebrating it, everyone went their separate ways to have dinner. Maybe this would have been the right year – a fourth place, which I saw they celebrated, maybe the conditions were ideal for it.”

“[On Mourinho] It’s all tabloid gossip. In the end, Roma will play Lazio, I won’t be able to score and Mourinho won’t be able to save a shot. What matters is the teams, more than the players and managers individually.”

“We [Italy] are clearly the team that plays the best football at the Euros. From the choices that were made I was expecting a brilliant and technical Italy team – Mancini has been great.”
